Scientists tweak wireless power transfer, Tesla nods happily in his grave
Wireless charging may be all the rage these days, but actually beaming electricity — as sketched above by the man Tesla himself — still has some snags. North Carolina State U researchers have found a way to possibly vanquish the biggest problem: the difficulty of exactly matching resonant frequencies to amplify current. If external factors like temperature change the tuning of a transmitter even slightly then power drops will occur, but circuitry developed by the NC State scientists would allow receivers to detect these changes and automatically re-tune themselves to match.

NTT DoCoMo hopes to expand content game with Buongiorno buyout
Japanese mobile operator, NTT DoCoMo , is making a play at the Italian firm Buongiorno, a mobile content provider that boasts two billion customers across 57 countries. The €224 million offer must still be approved by Italian regulators, and would reflect a purchase price of €2 per share for the entirety of Buongiorno’s outstanding stock.

HTC One X and EVO 4G LTE delayed at customs due to ITC exclusion order
We’ve just received a statement from HTC indicating that two of its flagship devices — the One X for AT&T and the EVO 4G LTE for Sprint — have been delayed at customs due to an ITC exclusion order that was handed down last December at Apple’s behest. That order was set to go into effect on April 19th, and it looks like HTC’s two new stateside superphones are the first to feel Apple’s the government’s wrath

T-Mobile CEO Philipp Humm issues memo discussing restructuring plans, more jobs affected
T-Mobile’s going through some more growing pains as it continues through the process of restructuring. Less than two months after announcing it would close down seven call centers and cut a total of 3,300 jobs, CEO Philipp Humm has sent out another memo discussing that the company is ready to take the “second essential step” by announcing a new structure — unfortunately, it means another round of layoffs is coming sometime this week. Humm gives no details on who will be affected, nor does he go into specifics on the new organizational structure that apparently is resulting in the loss of jobs

WD grits teeth, hands over the goodies to Toshiba to regulators and dentists’ delight
Western Digital has completed its FTC-ordered handover of assets to Toshiba in order to buy Hitachi’s HDD business Viviti . The wedding of the year was halted when regulators, citing monopoly concerns, demanded WD hand over a bundle of IP, R&D materials and production line gear to Tosh.

Apple issues Leopard update with Flashback removal tool
Folks still rocking Apple’s Leopard may have been feeling left out after Lion and Snow Leopard both got an update for addressing that Flashback malware . If you’re one of them, you’ll be glad to know that Apple has finally issued a Leopard fix that comes with a removal tool for the virus afflicting its big cats. In addition to a 1.23MB Flashback update, Apple also released a second 1.11MB fix for Leopard that disables versions of Adobe Flash Player that don’t have the requisite security updates.

T-Mobile subscribers waiting on pins and needles for the day their HTC Sensation 4G or Amaze 4G will get its Android 4.0 update don’t have to sit so uncomfortably for much longer: the carrier has just narrowed down the timetables considerably. The first wave of owners will get its Ice Cream Sandwich just desserts on May 16th, when Sensation 4G owners can push Android 4.0.3 to their dual-core 2011 flagships. Amaze 4G users have a looser timeframe of the “coming weeks” to dig in.

Twitter now sending email summaries, will keep weekly tabs on the Biebs
Twitter hasn’t wasted any time in making good on its Summify acquisition . Not even half a year after the ink has dried, you can now opt to get a curated summary of the “most relevant Tweets” and linked stories sent to your email inbox. The layout borrows more than a few cues from the new Discover tab and will let you respond from the email message itself, although we can imagine friends being slightly irked at reviving a conversation that was so very three days ago .

MacBook Pro and iMac with next-gen Ivy Bridge processors crop up on benchmarks (update)
Yup, Apples are bound to flow beneath the Ivy Bridge at some point, but how much of a performance boost will they deliver? If you’re happy to hold onto a little skepticism, then two unexpected appearances on the Geekbench site could offer some early answers. The first purports to be an unknown ‘MacBookPro9,1′ laptop powered by an Ivy Bridge Core i7-3820QM running at 2.7GHz, which achieved a benchmark of 12252 — that’s around 17 percent better than a current equivalent Core i7 15-inch or 17-inch MacBook Pro
